Our Practice Areas

Usury & Lending Laws

The California Constitution limits the interest that can be charged on a non-exempt loan to no more than ten percent (10%) per year. There is nothing black and white about usury.  The two most common exemptions to usury are loans made to corporations and loans arranged by a licensed broker.

Employment

Canon Law has successfully obtained multiple six and seven figure payouts on behalf of individual employee and class action matters. They have extensive experience representing aggrieved employees in matters involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wrongful termination.

Americans with Disabilities Act and Unruh Act

In the past decade, there has been an unfortunate trend of some law firms recruiting litigious disabled individuals to bring large number of what seems to be random claims against business and property owners for frivolous allegations of violations of the American with Disabilities Act and/or the Unruh Act.

Real Estate

Canon Law specializes in complicated real estate disputes, including title, transfer, real estate secured financing, escrow, and disclosure disputes. Below, you find examples of some of the real estate disputes that the Firm has handled.

Trials

The Firm’s strength is that although it is committed to resolving matters through alternative dispute resolutions such as mediation, so that disputes come to an early and cost-effective conclusion, yet, the Firm’s attorneys are seasoned trial attorneys, who have tried dozens of matters before the California Trial Courts.

Appeals

Attorney Kousha Berokim has successfully appealed Trial Court rulings and judgments in a variety of areas, and argued their clients’ cases before different Divisions of the California Court of Appeal.
